UKTOUSA Sled Dogs
Craftsbury True Companion  Race
Craftsbury, VT
January 2005
15 mile Race
Placed 8th out of 19 teams
This was Diva's first time
leading in any race and her
first season in lead.  She was a
natural alright with great drive
down the trail and a quick
ability to pick up commands
and take responsibility.

It was a very cold day, but
once we headed out, the cold
didn't bother us at all. Such a
beautiful place, lots of road
crossings, some wooded
sections with twisty turns and
two lake crossings.

I was very proud of Diva and
her pups!
We had a great race over the two
days. The dogs performed so well
and even competitively .  Strong
team of five hard pullers driven by
two awesome leaders, Opechee
and Yahboo.  The best of friends
on and off the trail.  Opechee was
a gifted leader.  Yahboo had a
great friend to learn from.

Little did I know that Opechee had
cancer growing inside her.   She
passed away later that year.   A
gifted lead dog, the most loyal
companion ever and an incredible
athlete.

I miss her each and every day.
A super race, the team was just
awesome. Such drive and power.
This was Opechee's last time in
harness before we learned of her
condition.

Still, she gave it heart and soul and
she always did. The day was warm
and the dogs just had a great time
with all the passes we had to do
with this particular race.

Looking at her in this picture... you
would not believe Opechee only
had months to live. .
A really fun race but,equally
difficult.  This was our first time
without Opechee in lead.

Yahboo was missing her terribly.
She did an outstanding job all
season in single lead as others
from the team worked their way
into lead position.

Just a short, fast, fun run to start
the season and lift our spirits.
