A Little About The Different Breeds
|
The Alaskan Malamute
Powerful dogs with affectionate dispositions. Loyal
and devoted and so majestic whether in harness
or at play. Malamutes make wonderful
companions on and off the trail. Seldom barkers,
yet often talkative. They will always share what is
on their minds. They have well muscled bodies,
thick coats with striking facial markings. Heavy
boned with good feet, broad heads, deep chests
and always with brown eyes. They can haul heavy
loads and exhibit true endurance over many miles.
Simply breath taking with their imposing stature.
Standard for a Male is 22-25 inches
Weight 65-85lb
Standard for a Female is 20-23 inches
Weight 50-70lb
The Yukon Husky
Mixed breed of husky from interior Alaska and the
Yukon Territories. Bred for working qualities,
strength, intelligence and devotion. Typically
non-aggressive. Very gentle, loving dogs. Both
my Yukon Huskies proved to be excellent leaders.
Good coats and feet, nice and leggy, good
workers with an outstanding attitude. Strong work
ethics with a desire to get down the trail. Good
open country dogs and typically, very trail savvy.
Their appearance can really vary from litter to
litter and even sibling to sibling.
Males 70-90lb
Females 60-75lb
The Hedlund Husky
Hedlund Huskies are on their way back! Good
workers, yet gentle. Very versatile, speedy,
smart and loyal. Tough dogs with great
endurance. Known as Rangy Grays, respected
for their ability to haul heavy loads and yet be
athletic enough to compete in many races
including several Iditarods. The line was
established some 70 plus years ago by Rose
and Nel Hedlund. They developed some of the
best known racing dogs of that time in the
Iliamna Lake Area. Natural leaders.
Males 60-80lb
Females 50-65lb
